This two-story home in Columbia, Missouri, is undergoing an eastward addition and deep green renovation by Peckham Architecture. The renovation includes a new roof and solar array for the whole building, super insulation in the addition, healthy finishes, and a clean air environment inside. Strategic deep green design elements leave the existing structure intact while ensuring that the addition will not increase the home’s energy consumption.

The addition has three stories, built into the wooded hillside. On the south-facing ground floor, a new entry opens to an expanded kitchen, with double the cooking and entertaining space, plus a garage and storage area. The second floor of the addition features a home gym, TV room, and office, as well as a rear entrance. Above the office, a third-floor perch allows an elevated view of the surroundings. Behind the home, a new gravel drive connects to farm buildings and guest parking.
